Job Description
Data Science Engineer
Pratt Industries is seeking a Data Science Engineer to lead data science initiatives across its operations, including Pratt Industries and Visy. This role will provide expertise in large-scale data analytics to support operational improvements and build data/machine learning products for valuable business insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify valuable data sources and automate collection processes.
- Perform preprocessing of structured and unstructured data.
- Analyze large datasets to discover trends and patterns.
- Develop automated systems using programming skills to enhance business operations.
- Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms.
- Present findings using data visualization techniques.
- Collaborate effectively with engineering and production teams.
- Provide support, direction, and training to Pratt/Visy locations, including remote assistance and rollout of data products.
- Travel as required to support development at other Pratt/Visy locations.
Requirements
- Experience as a Data Scientist or Data Analyst is preferred.
- Understanding of machine learning and operations research, or a demonstrated ability and desire to learn ML/AI methods.
- Knowledge of Data Control Systems (DCS), Data Historians, and data analytics software such as dataParc, Seeq, and Python.
- Strong analytical mind with business acumen.
- Proficiency in mathematics, including statistics and algebra.
- Aptitude for problem-solving.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- A post-secondary educational degree (2 to 4-year degree from college, university, technical school, military, vocational, or other advanced educational institution) is required.
- A BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Pulp and Paper, or other related engineering disciplines is preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, manuals, regulations, and codes.
- Ability to write business reports and correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, contractors, employees, and outside officials.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to gather information, perform detailed analysis, and solve problems.
- Ability to create reports for management review.
