Student Success Advisor (Evenings)

About the Role

The Student Success Advisor plays a crucial role in facilitating student success by developing and implementing proactive strategies to help students stay on track towards their educational objectives. This role involves building supportive, personalized relationships with students, managing their daily expectations, and fostering their connection to our online community. Advisors will guide students on university policies, procedures, program requirements, and academic matters, collaborating with university support teams to ensure timely and effective resolution of student inquiries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary guide to ensure students remain on track to meet their educational goals.
  • Connect with new students upon admission to confirm readiness and escalate any outstanding issues impacting a smooth start.
  • Assist students in understanding and fulfilling degree requirements.
  • Support students with appropriate course registration.
  • Advise students on university policies, procedures, program requirements, and related academic matters.
  • Provide comprehensive outreach to students at risk of not meeting satisfactory academic progress.
  • Proactively monitor students to identify at-risk scenarios and develop, implement, measure, and improve academic success strategies.
  • Collaborate with university staff to ensure strategic coordination and timely resolution of student inquiries, upholding academic integrity and University policies.
  • Guide students to develop accountability for their decisions and understand their impact on success.
  • Offer proactive guidance on adapting to graduate student life, building supportive personal environments, and implementing best practices for student success.
  • Empower students to maintain effective connections with the University and its online learning community.
  • This position is a designated Campus Security Authority.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 3 years of experience in a service-oriented environment or university setting.
  • Strong commitment to education with counseling or coaching skills to effectively guide online students.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving and time management.
  • Ability to multitask effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven ability to successfully resolve student issues from request to completion.
  • Experience working with multiple databases and student platforms.
  • Skilled in connecting with and building rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Creative, innovative, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-starter with the ability to adapt to new and rapidly changing situations.
  • Familiarity with online learning and internet technology is a plus.

Work Schedule

The standard schedule is Monday-Friday, either 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. or 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. local time. Some weekend shifts throughout the year are required. Preference will be given to candidates located in IL, MN, and MD.
