About the Role
As a Health Information Specialist I, you will play a crucial role in managing patient health information and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations. This is a permanent, onsite position with a schedule of Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM EST.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process requests for patient health information in accordance with company and facility policies.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of all privileged information.
- Manage patient health records, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Safeguard patient records and ensure compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Prepare new patient charts, gathering documents from paper sources and/or electronic health records.
- Create digital images of paperwork for storage in the electronic medical record.
- Respond to requests for patient records from internal and external sources, retrieving and transmitting them appropriately.
- Answer inbound and outbound calls.
- Assist with administrative duties such as handling faxes, opening mail, and data entry.
- Adhere to company and customer facility codes of conduct and policies.
- Inform management of work, site difficulties, and/or fluctuating volumes.
- Assist with additional work duties as required.
- Apply medical privacy regulations consistently to guard against unauthorized disclosure.
- Meet productivity expectations as outlined at the specific site.
- May assist with patient walk-ins and schedule pick-ups.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and other general office equipment.
- Professional verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to commute between locations as needed.
- Willingness to work overtime during peak seasons when required.
