About the Role

As a Health Information Specialist I, you will play a crucial role in managing patient health information and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations. This is a permanent, onsite position with a schedule of Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM EST.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive and process requests for patient health information in accordance with company and facility policies.
• Maintain confidentiality and security of all privileged information.
• Manage patient health records, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Safeguard patient records and ensure compliance with HIPAA standards.
• Prepare new patient charts, gathering documents from paper sources and/or electronic health records.
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in the electronic medical record.
• Respond to requests for patient records from internal and external sources, retrieving and transmitting them appropriately.
• Answer inbound and outbound calls.
• Assist with administrative duties such as handling faxes, opening mail, and data entry.
• Adhere to company and customer facility codes of conduct and policies.
• Inform management of work, site difficulties, and/or fluctuating volumes.
• Assist with additional work duties as required.
• Apply medical privacy regulations consistently to guard against unauthorized disclosure.
• Meet productivity expectations as outlined at the specific site.
• May assist with patient walk-ins and schedule pick-ups.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and other general office equipment.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to commute between locations as needed.
• Willingness to work overtime during peak seasons when required.

• Experience in a healthcare environment.
• Previous production or metric-based work experience.
• In-person customer service experience.
• Ability to build relationships with on-site clients and customers.
• Comfortable suggesting process improvements and providing feedback.
