About the Role
The Payroll Associate plays a crucial role in supporting the payroll tax function, ensuring that all payroll and payroll tax processes are completed accurately, on time, and in full compliance with government regulations. This position requires a detail-oriented, organized, and proactive individual who can manage tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the maintenance and review of payroll tax processing and accounting systems.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Process payroll updates accurately, including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates and tax locations.
- Assist with tax reconciliations.
- Prepare periodic and accurate reports of payroll tax transactions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, tax, and hour laws and best practices.
- Support internal and external audit processes as needed.
- Identify and recommend improvements to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures.
- Collaborate with the finance department to ensure general ledger accuracy and process necessary adjustments.
- Address employee and partner payroll questions and issues promptly and accurately.
- Process adjustments, generate W2C's, handle supplemental payroll runs, and manage reversals as required.
- Report significant matters to the Payroll Tax Lead or Payroll Manager and keep them informed of daily department activities.
Requirements
- 1-3 years of related payroll experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent time management, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work under pressure with flexibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- 3-5 years of related payroll experience.
- Knowledge of payroll functions, including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and payroll taxes.
- Specialized knowledge of US payroll.
- Proficiency with payroll software, ideally Workday Payroll.
