We are seeking a Founding Designer to own the product's look, feel, and design system from day one, revolutionizing the traditional design-to-handoff process.

Our Design Philosophy

We aim to move beyond the traditional loop of designing in Figma, handing off, engineers translating to code, and then iterating due to drift. With advancements in AI, designers can now express intent directly in code, working within the actual design system rather than a replica. This significantly reduces the translation step, leading to a more efficient and less lossy workflow. While we don't discourage using design tools for ideation, we seek a designer who prioritizes code as their primary medium and considers the live product the ultimate source of truth.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and build our design system in code, utilizing shadcn/ui as a foundation. This includes establishing tokens, variants, modes, responsive behavior, and accessibility standards.
• Prototype directly in code with AI assistance (e.g., Claude), ensuring that designs are immediately buildable and integrated into the codebase.
• Design the entire product surface, encompassing the 3D canvas, viewport controls, property panels, dashboards, and onboarding flows.
• Own iconography and illustration, either by creating the icon set and product illustrations yourself or by art-directing freelancers to ensure a consistent and high-quality visual language.
• Collaborate closely with engineers in a tight loop where "handoff" primarily involves code reviews rather than translation.
• Contribute to shaping the brand and marketing assets as the company expands.

Requirements

We are looking for a designer who excels at systems thinking, understands software constraints, and can reason about 3D interaction to deliver buildable, native, and impactful designs.

• Proficiency in working with code (HTML/CSS/React) and comfort using tools like Claude or similar AI assistants to translate ideas into functional UI. While not requiring an engineering background, you should be comfortable with the terminal and component files.
• Experience designing for 3D, spatial, or canvas-based software. This can be through shipped products, significant personal projects, or deep experience with tools like Blender, Rhino, SketchUp, Cinema 4D, Spline, or game engines. You should understand viewport controls, gizmos, camera behavior, and the integration of 2D UI with live 3D scenes.
• Experience designing with shadcn/ui, understanding its token-based component library structure.
• A strong eye for icon and illustration design, with the ability to produce this work or effectively direct freelancers.
• A proactive approach to designing for light/dark modes and responsiveness from the outset.
