About the Role
This is a remote position, with occasional onsite presence expected once a month for local commuting distance to Chesapeake, VA. You will serve as a senior technical authority supporting U.S. Navy small boats and craft, providing advanced engineering and lifecycle sustainment. You will be responsible for creating detailed technical drawings, schematics, and layouts for electrical systems using AutoCAD software, performing load calculations, selecting components, and ensuring compliance with safety codes. You will collaborate with engineers to support technical solutions for the NSWC Combatant Craft Division.
Key Responsibilities
- Create electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD.
- Design and modify power distribution, communications, and control systems for Navy shipboard systems.
- Perform electrical load calculations, sizing, and equipment specifications.
- Ensure all designs adhere to ABYC, Navy, and DoD electrical codes.
- Conduct site visits in the Norfolk, VA area to verify as-built conditions and validate design concepts.
- Collaborate with engineers and waterfront technician teams to resolve design conflicts.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- 2+ years of experience with electrical systems, understanding of electrical theory, Navy shipboard systems, and/or electrical code requirements.
- Proficiency in using AutoCAD to prepare detailed drawings, schematics, and layouts from "as-built" documentation.
- Must be a US citizen with an active Secret clearance.
- Ability to sit at a computer for 40 hours per week (can be at home) and occasionally attend local half-day trips for boat checks, which may require climbing a ladder.
Preferred Qualifications
- Electrical degree or certification.
- Experience with Navy small boats.
- 3+ years of electrical systems experience.
