Design Engineer (Remote, Contract)

USB Club is seeking a versatile Design Engineer to contribute to our innovative platform for designers, artists, DJs, writers, musicians, researchers, and engineers. This role offers a unique opportunity to blend design and coding skills within a dynamic and culturally rich environment.
About the Role
This is a mid-level, contract position with an expected commitment of 20-25 hours per week for the next 2-3 months, with potential for growth. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of USB Club, contributing to product roadmapping, design, and engineering. We are looking for someone who can not only execute but also bring their own ideas to fruition and build upon our existing vision.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Roadmapping, Research & Strategy:
- Contribute to the strategic development of the USB Club network, exploring features such as web access, USB as network keys, artist-specific USB sales, and cloud backup solutions for musicians.
- Integrate with knowledge graph platforms like are.na to enhance file accessibility.
- Drive product development and iteration, bringing your own innovative ideas to the platform.
- Product & Web Design:
- Design and contribute to the user experience of our macOS desktop app, iOS app, and website.
- Understand and contribute to the cultural aspects of the platform, which operates in a more behind-the-scenes, community-driven manner.
- Engineering:
- Develop and maintain our Electron-based desktop app.
- Contribute to our native iOS application.
- Work with our Vue.js website (with a potential future migration to Next.js).
- Develop and maintain our TypeScript API on PostgreSQL.
- Utilize and potentially integrate with tools like Retool, Typeform, and Airtable.
- Confidently ship production-grade features with minimal supervision.
- Social, Posters, Campaigns & Messaging:
- Contribute to building and shaping the culture around the USB Club network through compelling messaging and campaign strategies.
Requirements
- Proven ability to both design and code.
- A strong understanding of cultural, design, artist, music, and research spaces.
- Experience with Electron, Vue.js, and Typescript.
- Ability to work independently and ship high-quality features.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
