The Opportunity — Senior Payroll Operations Specialist I (Remote)
We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Operations Specialist I to join our Payroll Operations team. This role serves as an advanced practitioner and escalation point, responsible for complex remittance operations, payroll corrections, and union compliance in a high-volume, multi-state environment. You will uphold a high standard for accuracy, SLA performance, and documentation. Beyond individual execution, you will mentor teammates, identify process improvements, and collaborate cross-functionally to resolve root-cause issues. This is an ideal position for someone who excels in payroll operations and sets a high standard for themselves and others.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end payroll remittance operations, including corrections, reversals, overpayments, and contribution remittances, ensuring timely resolution within Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and maintaining clear documentation.
- Act as an escalation point for complex union and agency issues, identifying the root causes of reporting discrepancies and coordinating resolutions with relevant payroll teams.
- Mentor team members on intricate remittance and compliance matters, contributing to the overall skill enhancement of the team.
- Document and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring they are current, complete, and easily understandable.
- Identify gaps in payroll operations processes and propose concrete recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborate cross-functionally on payment and client funding inquiries, system testing, and payroll-related project work.
- Utilize AI tools to optimize operational workflows and adopt new functionalities that enhance team efficiency and accuracy.
- Proactively identify and surface issues with proposed solutions, acting as a subject matter expert across teams to drive them to closure.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in end-to-end, multi-state payroll processing.
- Advanced expertise in union payroll, with the ability to independently manage complex remittance and compliance issues.
- Experience in third-party payroll or the entertainment/film industry payroll is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Notion and Salesforce, with intermediate Excel skills.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly document processes and maintain SOPs that are easy for others to follow.
- Strong communication and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external agencies.
- A proactive approach to adopting and applying AI tooling and new workflows to improve operational efficiency.
- FPC or CPP certification is preferred.
