Learning & Development Specialist
HealthCorps · Florida, Florida, United States
Job Description
Learning & Development Specialist
HealthCorps is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving lives by addressing health challenges in communities. We achieve this through innovative programming that engages teens in education, leadership, and service learning. Our core model relies on near-peer mentorship, where college-age mentors are deployed into schools to connect with students as relatable role models, inspiring them to become change agents.
We are seeking a dynamic Learning & Development Specialist to join our team. This role is crucial in bridging the gap between curriculum design and program delivery, ensuring our content effectively reaches mentors and, in turn, the students they serve. You will be instrumental in shaping the training and development experience for our college mentors, many of whom are aspiring healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive Mentor Training & Development:
- Design and deliver comprehensive onboarding programs that prepare mentors for diverse settings, including effective session facilitation, student engagement across age groups, and handling unexpected situations in both classroom and club environments.
- Develop ongoing professional development opportunities, such as office hours, monthly live sessions, and coaching check-ins, to enhance mentor program delivery skills.
- Create practical, mentor-ready resources, including videos, how-to guides, templates, and quick-reference sheets.
- Partner with Curriculum and Program Teams:
- Review new lesson plans and activities before rollout, assessing clarity, resource needs, and time feasibility.
- Provide constructive feedback to the curriculum team to ensure designs are practical for real-world implementation.
- Translate curriculum into actionable training materials for mentors.
- Collaborate with Regional Program Managers to ensure effective mentor support and accountability.
- Analyze program data to identify areas where mentors may be struggling and inform training improvements.
- Engage College-Aged Mentors:
- Design training content tailored to how college students consume information, utilizing formats like short videos, push notifications, text-based tips, and interactive modules.
- Experiment with innovative training formats, such as podcasts or video series.
- Stay current on the motivations and engagement strategies for this generation of mentors.
- Field Engagement:
- Spend approximately 10-15% of your time observing mentors in the field, gathering insights to enhance training practicality and responsiveness.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in education, instructional design, curriculum development, youth development, training and coaching, public health, or a related field.
- Familiarity with instructional design frameworks and their application in time-constrained training contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with young adults, particularly college students.
- Experience working across varied learning environments or age groups is a plus.
- Proficiency with learning management systems (LearnUpon experience is a plus), video creation/editing, and design tools like Canva.
- Ability to travel nationally as needed (estimated 10-15%).
Skillset
- Passion for youth development, health education, or addressing health disparities.
- Creative problem-solving abilities.
- Strong understanding of adult and young adult learning principles.
- Excellent facilitation skills for live training, office hours, and virtual sessions.
- Skilled in providing honest, supportive feedback and coaching.
- Collaborative communicator adept at managing upwards and outwards.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguous, build-from-scratch environments.
- A growth mindset, modeling learning and adaptability.
What We Offer
- Full-time, salaried position with compensation between $50,000 - $55,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
