About the Role
ManTech is seeking a motivated Structural Engineer to support Military Sealift Command (MSC) engineering and design efforts. This role is crucial for ensuring the structural integrity, strength, and stability of diverse marine structures and vessel hulls, meeting critical operational characteristics for naval crafts.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform professional architectural, engineering, and scientific work related to the form, strength, and performance of marine structures.
- Conduct detailed Structural Analyses and Finite Element Analyses (FEA) to evaluate vessel hull integrity and operational safety.
- Develop technical reports and calculations for Weight and Moment, Stability, and Inclining Experiments.
- Execute Hydrostatics and Intact and Damage stability assessments to ensure vessel compliance with maritime standards.
- Manage arrangements for Hull and Deck outfitting, and conduct Mooring Studies and Vibration Analyses.
- Perform Material Analyses and Weld and Connection Analyses for shipboard repair and construction.
- Provide engineering oversight for Rigging, Cargo Handling, and Lifesaving Systems Analyses across various naval platforms.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience with specialized vessels in one or more of the following areas: Expeditionary Fast Transport Vessels (T-EPF), Hospital Ships (T-AH), Dry Cargo/Ammunition Ships (T-AKE), Underway Replenishment Oilers (T-AO), Cable Laying/Repair (T-ARC), Rescue/Salvage Ships (T-ARS), Submarine Tender (T-AS), Fleet Ocean Tugs (T-ATF), Command Ship (LCC), Expeditionary Mobile Base (T-ESB), Fast Combat Support Vessels (T-AOE), or similar vessels.
- Experience with vessel stability calculations, mooring analysis, towing plans, ship salvage, and dry-docking operations.
- Expertise in complex hull structures, arrangements, outfitting, and structural analysis.
- An active Secret clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience performing finite element analysis (FEA) and closed-form solutions for maritime applications.
- Experience with Optimoor and FEMAP/ANSYS (or similar software), MathCAD, Adobe Pro, AutoCAD, and MS Office Suite.
- Experience supporting Military Sealift Command (MSC) or similar naval engineering environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across teams, organize meetings, and drive change.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain stationary for 50% of the time.
- Occasional movement within the office, including accessing file cabinets and climbing ladder wells on vessels.
- Frequent communication with colleagues, management, and clients, including presentations and meetings.
