Science Adjunct Instructor - Remote
California Institute of Applied Technology (CIAT) is seeking a passionate and experienced Science Adjunct Instructor to join our team. This is a remote, contract position offering a flexible schedule that can accommodate other daytime commitments.
About the Role:
As a Science Adjunct Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective online science courses to students. You will play a crucial role in fostering a supportive learning environment and ensuring student success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver synchronous online courses via Microsoft Teams.
- Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning and engagement.
- Adapt teaching methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
- Employ effective teaching strategies to communicate subject matter clearly.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of your field and connect it to related disciplines.
- Stay current in your subject matter through professional development.
- Maintain accurate student grade records in the Student Database.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, CIAT policies, and FERPA regulations.
- Collaborate with staff and participate in new projects and initiatives.
Requirements:
- Appropriate credential, license, or certification in a science field.
- For Information Technology Instructors: Official transcripts of a bachelor's degree (or higher) and active/current certification in the subject.
- For General Education Instructors: Official transcripts of bachelor's and master's degrees (or higher) including at least 18 units in the subject being taught.
- A minimum of three years of experience in the respective field OR two years of teaching experience.
- Synchronous online teaching experience is preferred.
- Advanced subject matter expertise is preferred.
- Effective presentation skills.
- High level of flexibility, creativity, and dependability.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and learning technologies (e.g., Canvas).
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, multitask, and solve problems effectively.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).

- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in higher education.

Work Model & Location:
- Work from Home (WFH): Remote work must be performed while residing in California, Florida, Massachusetts, or New Mexico.
- Schedule: Class schedule is designed to be flexible, with live classes typically scheduled twice a week (Monday and Tuesday) from 6:00 PM - 9:30 PM PT. Weekend and evening hours may be required.
