About the Role
Stio® is seeking a Data Analyst to join our growing Data & Analytics team. This is a remote, permanent, mid-level position where you will work closely with the Director of Data & Analytics to enhance the business's data-driven decision-making capabilities. This is a full-stack role encompassing data infrastructure (ingestion, modeling, transformation), analysis, Business Intelligence (BI) development, and direct collaboration with stakeholders across Finance, Merchandising, Marketing, Operations, Inventory Planning, and B2B. You will tackle high-leverage problems and contribute to the expansion of our analytics function.
You will work within a tech stack including Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, Power BI, GitHub, and increasingly Python, in addition to SQL and R. AI-assisted development is the standard for the team, with collaborative coding using tools like Claude Code, followed by review, testing, and iteration. While expertise in AI tooling is not required, strong foundational data and modeling intuition is essential to identify potential issues in AI-generated output. Curiosity about the evolving landscape of data analytics is highly valued, and as an early team member, you will help shape our working environment.
We are looking for an analyst who can connect data insights to the broader business context and drive action. The ideal candidate is proactive, willing to address immediate needs, questions the status quo, and prioritizes solving pressing business problems efficiently. A strong technical foundation is crucial, but an eagerness to learn, sound judgment, and a desire to drive positive progress at Stio are equally important.
This role is part of the Finance department and reports to the Director of Data & Analytics.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with stakeholders across Product Development, Marketing, DTC, B2B, Finance, Operations, and Inventory Planning to translate business questions into well-defined analyses, dashboards, and data products. Own these end-to-end, from scoping and building to validation and communication.
- Develop and maintain dbt models to transform raw source system data into reliable, well-documented datasets. Write tests and documentation to ensure downstream usability by both humans and AI agents.
- Create and maintain semantic context, dashboards, and reports that support daily business operations.
- Own metric definitions and business semantics, driving alignment among stakeholders when definitions or numbers are unclear.
- Review and refine AI-generated SQL, dbt models, and Python code, using your data intuition to catch semantically incorrect issues that may pass automated tests.
- Investigate ambiguous data questions by collaborating with source system owners, analyzing edge cases, reconciling conflicting definitions, and improving our business model.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of Stio's data infrastructure (Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, GitHub, Power BI, R, Python) and participate in decisions regarding future stack evolution.
- Enhance data governance through the creation of useful documentation for both the Data & Analytics team and the wider business, ensuring AI agents can consume it as context.
- Continuously develop your skills in response to the evolving field of data analytics.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience as a Data Analyst, Analytics Engineer, or in a similar role.
- Advanced SQL proficiency, including CTEs, window functions, experience with real-world messy data, and the ability to analyze query plans.
- Hands-on experience with dbt, including writing models, tests, and documentation.
- Experience with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, Microsoft Fabric).
- Proficiency with version control using Git/GitHub.
- Experience as a developer with at least one BI tool (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
- A clear perspective on AI-assisted development for analytics, understanding its strengths, limitations, and methods for ensuring output trustworthiness.
- Proven ability to build collaborative and trusting relationships with non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfort presenting findings verbally, in writing, and visually to various audiences, including leadership.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Working knowledge of Python and/or R for data analysis.
