About Slingshot AI
Slingshot AI is building Ash, the first AI designed for mental health, with the mission to make support more accessible and help people change their lives. We are a well-funded Series A company with offices in New York City and London, backed by prominent investors. Our team is a diverse group spanning machine learning, product, engineering, and clinical expertise. We are a passionate, fast-iterating team that dreams big and cares deeply about our users.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a passionate team leveraging cutting-edge AI to improve global mental health access. As a Member of Technical Staff focused on Production Engineering, you will be instrumental in building and scaling the platform that powers Ash. You will work across voice and AI stacks, internal services, and data systems, focusing on enhancing observability, deployment, and platform tooling for reliable scaling.
As a core member of a small, highly skilled team, you will act as an owner, driven by a passion for delivering value and improving users' lives. We are seeking builders who are committed to the quality of their work and want to ship impactful products.
Our tech stack includes Dart/Flutter for the app, Kotlin for backend services, Python for ML, Next.js/TypeScript for internal tooling, and Rust for media streaming. We utilize gRPC and GCP (Kubernetes, Cloud Run). While expertise in all areas is not required, a strong learning mindset and a willingness to work with various tools are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate within a cross-functional team (engineering, machine learning, product) to design, build, and launch new features across the stack.
- Work across our technology stack, including backend services (Kotlin), ML scripts (Python), media streaming (Rust), the app (Dart/Flutter), and internal tooling (Next.js/TypeScript).
- Enhance user experience by continuously improving the reliability, performance, and scalability of Ash's underlying systems.
- Investigate, diagnose, and resolve production issues with a focus on latency, reliability, and cost.
- Independently prototype new features based on customer feedback and product insights.
Requirements
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, with a proven track record of operating production systems at scale in high-growth, high-quality environments.
- Strong systems intuition and well-developed opinions on latency, reliability, and cost.
- A drive to build a world-class product with a world-class team, with a desire to own your work and adapt systems as needed.
- Comfortable building across the full stack and a keen ability to learn new languages, technologies, and concepts quickly.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment, taking systems from prototype to scaled production rapidly.
Nice to Have
- Experience with production AI inference or model serving systems.
- Experience with real-time systems such as voice, live communications, or streaming.
- Experience with large-scale data pipelines or evaluation systems.
- Familiarity with ML codebases or a strong interest in AI.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to join a passionate, tight-knit team working on a world-changing product.
- Competitive compensation, aiming for the 90th percentile of the industry.
- Meaningful equity ownership in the company.
- Travel opportunities between our NYC and London offices.
- Standard startup perks including free lunch and coffee in the office, and a generous learning budget.
- Coverage for personal therapy.
