Job Description
Director of Commercial Operations
Company: Curaleaf International Location: UK, Spain, or Portugal (Remote) Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent Seniority: Executive
Curaleaf International is a leading vertically integrated medical cannabis business with a significant presence across Europe, Canada, and Australasia. We are experiencing rapid revenue growth and are seeking to build a robust commercial infrastructure to support this expansion.
This is a newly created, pivotal role responsible for establishing the demand-led commercial operations necessary for scaling the business. You will build and lead the demand planning function, implement a comprehensive sales governance framework, and refine commercial processes that align market intelligence with supply decisions. Working collaboratively with our Market Managing Directors, you will instill the discipline and rigor required to transform commercial ambitions into executable plans.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Governance and Sales Process:
- Develop long-term pipeline visibility through the creation of tools, templates, and disciplines for a consolidated view of commercial performance.
- Establish a regular commercial review cadence, including weekly market reviews where country heads present pipeline, wins/losses, and pricing against a consistent framework.
- Define and implement best practices for pipeline visibility and forecast accuracy across all markets.
Demand Signal Ownership:
- Own the forward-looking commercial demand plan, providing a SKU-level, market-by-market view of sales targets grounded in market intelligence.
- Ensure the demand signal is finalized and signed off at the beginning of each planning cycle to provide a stable target for supply teams.
- Partner with the Group Demand & S&OP Manager to integrate the commercial demand signal into the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process.
- Collaborate with Finance on the monthly re-forecast process, ensuring changes to the demand signal are governed and visible.
- Perform SKU-level demand planning for smaller business entities.
- Contribute to long-term portfolio planning by analyzing market trends, regulatory changes, and competitor insights to inform future product development and launches.
- Create mid-to-high level long-term demand plans for bi-annual handover to General Managers, enabling them to translate these into SKU-level forecasts.
Requirements
Experience:
- 10+ years in commercial operations, merchandising, demand planning, or commercial excellence, with a proven track record of building these functions.
- Experience in FMCG is essential. Direct experience with prescription, pharmacy, or clinical channels is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement sales governance frameworks and demand planning processes in a multi-market environment, particularly where unified processes did not previously exist.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to independently build SKU-level demand models, margin analyses, and commercial dashboards.
- Experience working with geographically dispersed commercial teams in a matrix structure, influencing without direct line authority.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with multi-country demand planning across markets with structurally different commercial models.
- Experience working with or alongside an S&OP function, with a clear understanding of its mechanics and interface with commercial demand planning.
Personal Attributes:
- A "player-coach" mentality: capable of designing frameworks and executing tasks directly.
- A builder: energized by creating new processes and governance structures.
- Direct and constructive communication style, able to provide critical feedback while maintaining relationships.
- Commitment to Curaleaf's values: Lead & Inspire, Commit to Win, Customer Obsession, One Curaleaf, Driven to Deliver Excellence.
