As we continue to grow, we are seeking a high-autonomy Engineering Manager to lead our Safety Experience Team. This is a fully remote-friendly role within the United States.

About the Role

As the Engineering Manager for Safety, you will own the strategy, development, and scaling of Reddit's Safety Experience. You will lead a high-impact engineering team dedicated to protecting our users and moderators from malicious behavior and bad actors. Your work will involve building the next generation of scalable safety tooling and automated defense systems to empower our global moderator community and safeguard the platform at scale. Key Responsibilities

• Lead a high-impact team of 13 engineers focused on automated AI training and human-in-the-loop workflows central to Reddit's safety strategy.
• Own the user-facing tools that moderators use to define and enforce community rules automatically.
• Oversee the centralized platform used by admins for training AI models (content and behavior detection), processing reports and appeals, and investigating suspicious activity.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Data Science, ML, and Operations to define and execute an AI-first platform strategy capable of supporting significant scale increases while drastically reducing incident response times.

Requirements

• Proven track record of directly managing and scaling larger engineering teams (10+ individual contributors) across full-stack and backend systems architectures.
• Deep technical expertise in full-stack engineering or architecture, with substantial experience in large-scale distributed systems.
• Ability to set a clear roadmap for the team and its members, consistently delivering results with a strong customer and business focus.
• A passion for coaching engineers, providing regular feedback, and fostering a healthy team culture.
• Customer-focused, self-directed, innovative, and biased towards action in fast-paced environments.
• Familiarity with or a strong interest in AI/ML engineering practices, particularly in areas like serving, prompt engineering, or productionizing LLM/classical workflows at scale.

Base Salary Range: $217,000—$303,900 USD
