VC Associate

Toyota Ventures is seeking a motivated VC Associate to join the Toyota Ventures Frontier Fund(s). This is a permanent, remote position with a salary range of $120,000 - $155,000 per year.

Founded in 2017, Toyota Ventures is a San Francisco Bay Area-based venture capital firm with over $800M in Assets Under Management. We invest in early-stage startups globally, focusing on deep tech and climate solutions, with the mission to discover what's next for Toyota by accelerating groundbreaking technologies and business models.

About the Role

The VC Associate will play a key role in sourcing and screening innovative companies in sectors such as AI, advanced materials, automation and robotics, and space tech. This role offers the opportunity to work with a dynamic team, engage with leading entrepreneurs and investors, and contribute to the growth of cutting-edge startups.

Key Responsibilities

• Network and participate in industry and VC events and organizations.
• Generate deal flow and source high-potential target companies.
• Evaluate companies through meetings and analysis to make investment recommendations.
• Participate in due diligence, competitive analyses, and industry deep dives.
• Prepare investment memos and present potential investments to the Investment Committee.
• Support deal negotiations and closings.
• Analyze industry trends and author market research briefings.
• Collaborate with the Toyota Ventures platform team to support portfolio companies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, engineering, or a relevant field.
• A minimum of 4 years of related work experience, with previous experience in venture capital or an operational role in a technology company being preferred.
• A strong understanding of deep tech.
• Hands-on experience in a development or product management role related to our investment areas is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A strong understanding of industry trends and the ability to identify emerging startups.
• A natural networker, plugged into the startup ecosystem, and familiar with leading entrepreneurs and investors in deep tech.
• Experience creating cap tables, digesting financial statements, and preparing investment memos.
• Strong financial modeling and analysis skills.
• Extensive experience working with Excel and Google Suite.
• High level of integrity and professionalism, with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Entrepreneurial-minded, comfortable with ambiguity and risk.
• Ability to work collaboratively with team members and successfully complete projects with minimal guidance.
• Passion for learning about new technologies and understanding their business potential.
