Communications Officer - Remote (Worldwide)

The International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (ISAC) is seeking a motivated Communications Officer to join their team on a part-time, temporary basis (0.6 FTE for 12 months). This is a remote position, open to candidates worldwide.

ISAC is a learned society and a UK-registered charity dedicated to advancing antimicrobial chemotherapy through education, publications, and events. Following a recent strategy review, ISAC is looking to enhance its communication efforts and has created this opportunity to support key strategic objectives.

Reporting to the ISAC CEO, you will work within a supportive team environment. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the growth and engagement of an international society.

Key Responsibilities

  • Member Society Engagement:
    • Collaborate with the Member Society Engagement Group to achieve strategic goals.
    • Initiate contact with ISAC's 107 Member Societies, updating contact details and gathering relevant information.
    • Foster dialogue with Member Societies and gather information on their activities.
    • Develop and distribute regular newsletters and updates to Member Societies.
    • Create a template for Member Societies to provide updated information.
    • Proactively track Member Society AGMs and key meetings to ensure timely information updates.
    • Conduct membership surveys as needed.
    • Engage with members through online channels, including social media, websites, and online journals.
  • Industry Liaison:
    • Support the Industry Liaison Group in achieving its strategic objectives.
    • Maintain and update ISAC's industry database, identifying new commercial companies to include.
    • Assist in developing a strategy to increase commercial support for ISAC and its biennial conference.
    • Identify key prospects, develop tailored approaches, and facilitate discussions and negotiations.
    • Maintain relationships with corporate partners and supporters.
    • Ensure fulfillment of contracts and appropriate representation at events.
  • Communications Strategy & Content Creation:
    • Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to operationalize ISAC's Communication Strategy.
    • Manage and populate ISAC's social media accounts.
    • Contribute to the redesign of ISAC's website, providing recommendations on usability and content.
    • Act as webmaster, updating website content as required, particularly for Member Societies, Scientific and Educational Meetings, and Archives sections.
    • Design, construct, and disseminate a regular newsletter.
    • Establish internal communication and reporting structures.
    • Develop an external communications plan, including a strategy for the newsletter.
    • Maintain a database of email addresses, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
  • General Support:
    • Provide cover for the CEO and Executive Officer as required.

Requirements

  • Degree level education.
  • Essential previous experience in a communications role.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with a professional and business-oriented style.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse nationalities, disciplines, and backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), content management systems, and social media platforms.
  • Ability to learn new tasks and adapt to challenges quickly.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work from home as ISAC does not have office premises.
  • Willingness to travel to meetings, including to the CEO's base in Aberdeen, UK.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience working in international organizations.
  • Previous experience working with a professional society or with pharmaceutical/diagnostic companies.
