Senior Security Engineer - Remote (Spain)

Hopper is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join their impactful Security team. This is a remote, permanent position based in Spain, ideal for an experienced professional looking to build and own critical security systems.

About the Role

As a Senior Security Engineer, you will be at the forefront of securing Hopper's applications throughout their lifecycle. You will design, build, and maintain the tooling, automation, and processes that ensure security is seamlessly integrated into developer workflows. This role emphasizes a hands-on, builder-oriented approach, leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a core tool for efficiency and scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and advance the vulnerability management program, with a strong focus on application security, including container images, dependencies, code scanning, and runtime detection.
• Develop and maintain security tooling that integrates directly into CI/CD pipelines and developer workflows, enabling automated security practices.
• Utilize AI extensively for faster code development, automated analysis, and building scalable intelligent tooling.
• Assess and enhance the utilization of telemetry across systems.
• Collaborate directly with engineering teams to promote secure development practices by providing easy-to-use tools and defaults.
• Investigate and respond to security findings when necessary, while prioritizing the development of preventative and detective systems.
• Adapt quickly to shifting priorities in an agile team environment.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software and/or platform engineering, with a proven ability to design, build, and maintain production-quality tools.
• Deep expertise in application security and vulnerability management, including an understanding of CVEs, dependency risks, container security, and SDLC integration.
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably GCP/GKE or equivalent.
• Demonstrated proficiency in using AI tools (e.g., coding assistants, LLMs) as a fundamental part of your workflow.
• A strong bias towards automation and building tools to address repetitive tasks.
• Comfort with ambiguity, ownership, and making independent judgment calls.
• Experience influencing engineering culture around security in a way that resonates with developers.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
