About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Senior Manager to establish and lead our technical accounting policy function for our Group, UK, and EU regulated entities. This is a newly created, high-impact role reporting to the Director of Financial & Regulatory Reporting. You will be the primary technical interface for the business, assessing new commercial proposals, leading technical accounting discussions, and strategically managing technical accounting queries across the finance team. This key role will work closely with the Group Financial Controller and UK/EU CFOs to deliver high-quality external reporting and provide technical accounting advisory.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert advice on complex accounting issues, including revenue recognition, leasing, and financial instruments, documenting conclusions in technical memos.
• Develop and maintain global accounting policies, ensuring consistency and compliance with updated standards (IFRS).
• Lead projects for the adoption of new accounting standards.
• Partner with commercial and product teams to evaluate the accounting implications of new products, lending propositions, and complex transactions.
• Manage the intake of technical queries, strategically triaging and delegating tasks to leverage and develop the technical skills within the wider finance team.
• Establish, coordinate, and chair an internal technical accounting forum to debate, align, and secure sign-off on accounting estimates, judgments, and new policies/standards.
• Act as the dedicated technical accounting partner to the business, translating complex technical standards into actionable business advice.
• Lead technical discussions with external auditors, authoring robust accounting papers to support reported positions.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and advisors.

Requirements

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CPA) with 5+ years of experience in accounting policy, technical accounting, or Big 4 accounting advisory.
• Strong, hands-on knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), particularly in specialised areas like IFRS 9.
• Proven track record within a banking institution or a Big 4 banking/financial services advisory practice is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in managing workloads across a team and collaborating effectively.
• Ability to facilitate technical debate and drive alignment among senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
• Strong capability to communicate technical standards into clear, professional, and practical guidance for non-finance stakeholders.
• Sharp prioritisation and organisational skills to effectively triage proposals and maximize team capabilities.
• Demonstrable ability to be resilient and flexible in a fast-paced, tech-led, and agile environment.
