We are seeking a mission-driven Paralegal to join our legal team. This role is crucial in supporting attorneys and policy staff in developing cases, managing litigation and administrative records, conducting research, and ensuring our work is grounded in the experiences of students and borrowers.
Key Responsibilities
The Paralegal will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
- Case Development:
- Conducting plaintiff outreach and vetting.
- Performing factual case research.
- Producing written explanatory materials.
- Litigation Support:
- Formatting and preparing legal documents for filing.
- Cite checking and proofreading legal motions and memoranda.
- Reviewing materials produced in discovery.
- Communicating with clients and co-counsel.
- Assisting with case management.
- Administrative Support:
- Serving as the primary administrative point person for the legal team.
- Coordinating public records requests, including drafting, tracking, and organizing responses.
- Maintaining electronic files.
- Communications & Intake:
- Updating the website and social media platforms.
- Managing email and outreach lists.
- Drafting and editing communications materials.
- Managing the intake process, including screening individuals for potential representation and responding to inquiries.
Requirements
- A minimum of 1-2 years of work experience, preferably in a legal department or law firm.
- Proficiency in legal research, litigation support, document preparation, client communication, and case management.
- Residency in the Washington D.C. area is required.
