Civil Service Secretary Chief Examiner - City of Pullman

The City of Pullman Civil Service Commission is seeking an independent contractor to serve as Secretary and Chief Examiner. This is a contract position with a monthly salary range of $400.00 - $600.00.

About the Role

The Secretary and Chief Examiner is responsible for the independent administration and direction of the City Civil Service Commission, operating in accordance with established Civil Service Rules and Regulations and state law. This role reports directly to and takes direction from the Civil Service Commission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and/or supervise the evaluation of applicants against minimum qualifications.
  • Determine examination content, subjects, and weighting, subject to Commission approval.
  • Supervise the conduct of all examinations, appointing necessary experts or proctors.
  • In coordination with Police or Fire Chiefs, resolve eligibility and admissibility questions for applicants.
  • Recommend the certification of successful candidates to eligibility lists, subject to Commission approval.
  • Perform all other functions necessary for the proper execution of Civil Service rules and laws.
  • Attend all Commission meetings, record votes, and ensure minutes are prepared and presented.
  • Refer proposed qualifications and examination matters to the Commission for approval.
  • Utilize technology for communication and work management.
  • Work an unpredictable schedule, potentially including long days.
  • Meet deadlines under pressure and in stressful circumstances.
  • Follow Commission directives, maintain reliable attendance, and protect confidential information.
  • Comply with all Commission policies, rules, and state ethics laws.
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Collaborate effectively with others.

Requirements

  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in business, psychology, social sciences, paralegal, human resources, or a related field, OR a minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • Must be a qualified citizen of the City of Pullman.
