Backend / Full-Stack Developer Intern (Mandatory Internship)

IndieKidz GmbH is a Berlin-based startup developing creative learning products for children. Our product, Occibo, is an AI-assisted platform designed to streamline the children's book creation process, from manuscript to final assets. We are seeking a motivated Backend / Full-Stack Developer Intern to contribute to the technical development of Occibo.

This is an ideal opportunity for a student eager to gain practical experience building a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product with modern backend and AI infrastructure.

Duration: 3–6 months Compensation: Unpaid mandatory internship Location: Remote

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance backend APIs using Node.js, TypeScript, and Express.js.
• Utilize Supabase for database management, authentication, and data handling.
• Support file storage workflows, including integration with Cloudflare R2.
• Assist in building AI workflow orchestration for book creation, illustration, layout, and export processes.
• Work with queue-based processing systems using Redis and BullMQ.
• Support integration with AI image-generation workflows, such as ComfyUI.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
• Debug, test, and improve existing backend services.
• Contribute to selected frontend or full-stack tasks as needed.
• Collaborate effectively with product, design, and content team members.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with JavaScript / TypeScript.
• Understanding of backend development principles, APIs, databases, and Git.
• Interest in early-stage AI, SaaS products, and product development.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
• Commitment to writing clean code and a willingness to learn.
• Reliability, curiosity, and a proactive approach.
