Localisation Linguist
DNEG · London, London, England, United Kingdom
Job Description
Localisation Linguist
Company: DNEG Location: London, England, United Kingdom Work Model: Onsite Contract: Permanent Seniority: Mid-level
About the Role
Brahma AI is developing an end-to-end content system for creating photorealistic digital humans. Our proprietary models, ATMAN (visual identity) and VAANI (voice), power an enterprise platform that enables these digital humans to communicate across languages. We are establishing an in-house linguistics function to ensure our output is not only accurately translated but also linguistically and vocally excellent in every language.
This is a unique opportunity to be one of the first linguists to join our team. You will own language quality for both text and voice, and play a key role in shaping the tools and workflows used by linguists. You will work closely with the VAANI (voice) team, focusing on two primary objectives:
- Ensuring our output is linguistically excellent.
- Improving the systems that generate and support this output, for both text and voice.
As the first internal user of our localisation tooling and voice interfaces, your feedback will directly influence their development. We are moving away from reliance on external vendors and internal speakers to build a dedicated team that upholds quality standards and drives tooling innovation. You will also be involved in supervising external linguists as needed.
What You Will Do
- Own the linguistic quality of translated text in your designated language(s), including review, quality control, and correction.
- Review and evaluate synthesised voice output from VAANI in your language, assessing linguistic correctness, naturalness, prosody, pronunciation, emotion, and timing.
- Collaborate directly with the VAANI team to define and enhance voice generation and evaluation processes for your language.
- Contribute to the design of the linguist-facing platform, including workflows, review screens, and tooling for translation and output validation.
- Build and maintain linguistic assets for your language, such as style guides, glossaries, evaluation criteria, and pronunciation guidance.
- Contribute to and refine a pronunciation dictionary.
- Establish quality standards and turnaround expectations for external vendors and internal speakers.
- Translate linguistic challenges into structured, actionable input for engineering and product teams.
Who You Are
- An excellent linguist with native or near-native command of your language and strong English proficiency.
- Possess formal training or equivalent professional experience in linguistics, translation, or localisation.
- Comfortable using and evaluating AI tools in your work, with an interest in shaping models and platform tools for high-quality, efficient translation and voice output.
- Adaptable and hands-on, comfortable working in a fast-moving and evolving environment.
- A clear communicator, capable of explaining linguistic nuances to engineers and translating product goals into concrete language requirements.
- Dedicated to quality while maintaining a pragmatic approach to delivery.
Nice To Have
- Experience with voice technology, Text-to-Speech (TTS), or speech evaluation.
- Familiarity with localisation tooling, CAT tools, or QA platforms.
- Sufficient technical literacy to understand the behaviour and potential failure points of AI models.
- Proficiency in additional languages.

We are seeking linguists for the following languages:
- English
- Mandarin Chinese (Simplified)
- Spanish (Latin American and Castilian)
- Hindi
- Arabic (MSA)
- Portuguese (Brazilian)
- Japanese

Why Join?
This is a build role, not a maintenance role. You will have a direct impact on how digital humans communicate across global languages, with significant ownership over both quality and the tools that enable it.
