About the Role
Optimum is seeking a skilled and experienced Facilities Technician to join our team in Kingston. This onsite role involves a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our facilities. You will be responsible for both general upkeep and specialized technical maintenance across various building systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general custodial duties including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and window cleaning.
- Manage trash and recycling removal, and maintain cleanliness of restrooms and common areas.
- Conduct non-technical maintenance and standard repairs on electrical systems, such as tubes, fixtures, switches, and outlets.
- Assist licensed electricians with non-technical repairs as needed.
- Monitor and maintain heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC) systems, including cleaning components and adjusting controls.
- Perform standard repairs and non-technical maintenance on plumbing systems, such as fixing leaks and clearing obstructions.
- Assist licensed plumbers with tasks as appropriate.
- Execute carpentry tasks including drywall installation/repair, window and cabinet replacement, painting, and door hardware installation.
- Paint interior and exterior finishes.
- Assist in maintaining water treatment and storage systems.
- Repair kitchen equipment.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of equipment and supplies, promoting workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Document maintenance requirements and maintain records of work performed.
- Maintain tools, storage areas, facility carpets, flowers, and gardens.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of directly related experience.
- A diploma from an accredited institution.
- Specialized skills in at least one of the following areas: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, drywall, or carpentry.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools applicable to trade.
- Ability to repair and maintain appliances and heating/cooling equipment.
- Skill in using computers, preferably in a Windows-based environment.
- Record maintenance skills.
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of one or more building trades.
- Ability to plan and prioritize jobs, working with a preventative maintenance program.
