Senior Backend Engineer – Alerting (Remote, UK)

Grafana Labs, the company behind the open observability cloud, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Alerting squad. We are a 100% remote company with a global team and a strong commitment to open source principles.

About the Role

The Grafana Alerting squad is at the core of the Grafana open-source project. Our mission is to provide users with the most in-depth way to manage their alerts. This backend-focused role involves working closely with customers and Grafana Cloud teams to ensure Alerting functions seamlessly both on-premises and at scale in the cloud. You will contribute to building distributed systems for alert ingestion, delivery, and evaluation, handling critical infrastructure and essential services for major organizations worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Take an active role in influencing the product roadmap and your own career development.
• Collaborate with your team to deliver new features, iterate, and improve existing functionality.
• Drive projects from initial ideation through to operational deployment.
• Contribute to our open-source culture and potentially other projects outside your immediate team's scope.
• Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems, ensuring their reliability, performance, and availability.
• Participate in on-call rotations and take ownership of the services you manage.
• Mentor and support team members, actively participating in design discussions.
• Continuously learn and deepen your understanding of our cloud product, customers, and large-scale distributed systems.

What We're Looking For

• Solid experience with at least one programming language (Go is our primary language, but experience with Python, Java, C++, or Rust is transferable).
• Experience delivering projects from requirements gathering to shipping a product.
• Experience with cloud-based software development or systems engineering.
• Proven ability to write clean, robust, and maintainable software.

• Compensation: In the UK, the salary range for this role is GBP 91,755 - GBP 110,106, depending on experience and skillset.
