The infrastructure teams at Stripe are dedicated to providing an efficient, optimized, and secure foundation for all of Stripe's products. We enable Stripe developers to build, ship, and operate products with maximum productivity and reliability. Our work focuses on the frameworks, asynchronous platforms, and tooling that underpin all Stripe products, while also driving company-wide architectural improvements to ensure scalability and evolution.

About the Role

As a Technical Program Manager on the Infrastructure team, you will lead programs that span multiple Stripe engineering organizations. Your focus will be on enhancing the internal platforms that power all of our products. In collaboration with engineering and product management leaders, you will be responsible for planning, communication, and steering the execution of large-scale technical programs. You will tackle complex problems and enable product engineering teams across Stripe. The ideal candidate will deliver impactful solutions that scale company-wide, minimize disruption to product teams, and align with broader engineering initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-organizational teams to identify infrastructure pain points and develop solutions that address common needs across multiple domains.
• Define and produce high-quality written proposals, communications, and documentation.
• Contribute to defining the frameworks, asynchronous platforms, and tooling used to build and operate all Stripe products.
• Partner with Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, Engineers, and other Technical Program Managers to define, scope, and drive large migration programs to completion.
• Play a key role in shaping technical designs, anticipating technical roadblocks through collaboration with engineers, and identifying critical trade-offs.
• Develop, implement, and iterate on program management techniques, frameworks, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to achieve goals with clearly defined success criteria.
• Enhance the execution capabilities of engineering teams by providing training and guidance where needed.
• Influence peers and stakeholders, build consensus, and navigate ambiguity effectively.
• Leverage data and acquired knowledge to drive strategic decisions at the engineering leadership level.
• Create widely circulated plans to drive consistency, clarity, and alignment across teams.
• Operationalize and execute critical cross-functional programs spanning Stripe engineering organizations.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, and/or technical program management.
• Experience with developer products or open-source projects.
• Experience with distributed systems, software libraries/frameworks, and service-oriented architectures.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to digest complex information, distill insights, and make recommendations.
• A proven track record of providing program management throughout all phases of software development, from kick-off to launch, demonstrating critical thinking and thought leadership.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build robust relationships with stakeholders, teams, and senior leaders.
• Experience driving internal and external process improvements across multiple teams and functions, bringing a wealth of experience, opinions, proposals, and best practices.
• Ability to operate autonomously and rapidly, leading large-scale efforts across multiple teams and functions with stakeholders in different disciplines and time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in core infrastructure areas such as databases, cloud compute, networking, and services.
• Flexibility in approach to Technical Program Management, adapting to customer needs.
• Background in technical program management specifically within software infrastructure.
• Comfort working with geographically distributed teams.
• Empathy for customer needs combined with the vision to innovate beyond incremental improvements.
• Enthusiasm for collaborating with teammates across Stripe's organization.
