About the Role

This is a freelance role for the Tendem project. You will be responsible for designing, building, and refining messaging bots across platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Discord. These bots will be used for various use cases, including customer service, appointment booking, order taking, content delivery, moderation, and automated notifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop bots for WhatsApp (Business API / Cloud API), Telegram (Bot API), Discord, and similar messaging platforms.
• Design and implement conversational flows, manage dialogue state, and handle fallback scenarios.
• Integrate bots with Large Language Models (LLMs) such as OpenAI or Anthropic for natural language responses.
• Connect bots to backend services, databases, CRMs, and third-party APIs (e.g., booking systems, payment gateways).
• Manage webhooks, rate limits, and platform-specific message formats (interactive messages, buttons, media, templates).
• Evaluate AI-generated bot code, refactoring for correctness, reliability, and error handling.
• Implement logging, monitoring, and recovery mechanisms to ensure bot health in production.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in backend or bot development.
• Hands-on experience building bots on at least one major messaging platform (WhatsApp Business/Cloud API, Telegram Bot API, Discord, Slack, or similar).
• Proficiency in Python or Node.js for backend bot logic.
• Solid experience with REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and asynchronous request handling.
• Experience with relational or NoSQL databases for managing conversation state and user data.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to bot reliability.
• Ability to work independently, design, and ship complete bots.
• A portfolio or examples of previously built bots are required.
• Upper-intermediate (B2) or higher English proficiency.

A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field is a plus.

Familiarity with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) and prompt design for conversational use is a strong plus.

Experience with hosting and deployment (Docker, serverless, VPS, or PaaS) is beneficial.

Project Details

• Work Model: Fully Remote
• Contract: Freelance
• Estimated Hours: 10–20 hours per week during active project phases (estimate, not guaranteed workload).
• Compensation: Up to $50 per hour equivalent, depending on experience and contribution level. Compensation may vary across different projects.
