The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Communications is seeking a skilled Photographer to join their strategic digital content team. This role is crucial for producing high-quality visual content that supports teaching, research, Extension, and public engagement initiatives across the state.
About the Role
As a professional photographer with limited videography capabilities, you will be responsible for creating compelling visual stories that highlight UF/IFAS programs, faculty, and impact. You will utilize advanced photography and digital media techniques to produce content for both print and digital platforms, contributing to social media outreach and maintaining a robust, searchable image archive.
Key Responsibilities
- Capture high-resolution images for editorial, promotional, and public-facing use.
- Plan and execute photo assignments independently or collaboratively.
- Determine optimal composition, lighting, and camera settings.
- Produce occasional high-quality video content.
- Edit RAW images using Adobe Creative Suite and related software.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and communications teams to plan and execute assignments.
- Ensure visual content aligns with UF/IFAS branding and storytelling goals.
- Maintain and organize a large-scale digital archive of images, applying metadata and managing file storage.
- Upload and manage image galleries in internal databases and retrieve visual assets upon request.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and studio organization.
- Participate in content planning meetings and collaborate with communications partners.
- Identify and recommend visual content opportunities aligned with social and digital trends.
Requirements
- High school diploma and four years of appropriate experience.
- Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
- Professional photojournalism, studio, or public relations photography experience, evidenced by a portfolio of published work.
- Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and other digital imaging technology and software applications.
- Technical knowledge of photography and digital camera equipment, including a thorough understanding of camera settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO) for desired photographic results.
- Self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills, capable of producing high-quality work under deadlines.
- Valid driver's license required within 60 days of hire.
Work Environment
- Frequent travel (approximately 60%) throughout South Florida.
- Occasional evening and weekend work required for events.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments, including heat and humidity.
