Hopper is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join our impactful Security team. This is a builder's role where you will own the tooling, automation, and processes that ensure the security of our applications throughout their lifecycle. You will build systems that integrate security seamlessly into developer workflows, leveraging AI as a core tool for efficiency and scale.

About the Role

As a Senior Security Engineer, you will be instrumental in shaping and implementing Hopper's security strategy. You will focus on making security an inherent part of our development process, rather than a bottleneck. This role requires a proactive approach to building, automating, and integrating security solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and advance our vulnerability management program, with a strong emphasis on application security, including container images, dependencies, code scanning, and runtime detection.
• Develop and maintain security tooling that integrates directly into CI/CD pipelines and developer workflows, enabling automated security checks.
• Utilize AI tools extensively for faster code development, automated analysis, and building scalable intelligent security solutions.
• Assess and enhance the utilization of telemetry across our systems.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to promote secure development practices by delivering practical tools and defaults.
• Investigate and respond to security findings, while prioritizing the development of preventative and detective systems.
• Adapt quickly to shifting priorities in an agile environment.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software and/or platform engineering, with a proven ability to design, build, and maintain production-quality tools.
• Deep expertise in application security and vulnerability management, including an understanding of CVEs, dependency risks, container security, and SDLC integration.
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably GCP/GKE or equivalent.
• Demonstrated proficiency in using AI tools (e.g., coding assistants, LLMs) as a primary method for building and analysis.
• A strong bias towards automation, with an instinct to build tools for repetitive tasks.
• Comfort with ambiguity and a capacity for ownership, making independent judgment calls on priorities and approaches.
• Experience influencing engineering culture around security, making it accessible and beneficial for developers.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate security posture when required.
