About the Role

Datadog is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to contribute to the advancement of REDAPL, our Referential Data Platform. The platform handles a significant volume of data, ingesting over 4.5 million updates per second.

As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in driving and collaborating on projects that enhance the platform's capabilities. You will be instrumental in making critical technical decisions concerning our data ingestion, processing, and query pipelines.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop a query engine designed for efficient relationship traversals to support demanding workloads.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of high-priority, high-visibility projects aimed at increasing the platform's value, resilience, and scalability across multiple teams.
  • Lead and mentor other engineers in making architectural platform decisions.
  • Identify potential system risks and reliability trends, and design solutions to mitigate them.
  • Provide input on prioritizing engineering-led initiatives for both short-term and long-term planning and roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with internal product teams to understand their requirements and plan for their product growth as they integrate with and rely on REDAPL.

Who You Are

  • You hold a BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related scientific field, or possess equivalent practical experience.
  • You have extensive experience working with multiple types of data stores.
  • You have a proven track record of contributing to initiatives within a platform or infrastructure-focused environment.
  • You have led impactful technical initiatives where performance, cost efficiency, ease of use, and resilience/operability were primary concerns.
  • You have significant backend engineering experience, including building and operating distributed systems to address large-scale problems.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Graph Databases such as Neo4j, Memgraph, JanusGraph, ArangoDB, Amazon Neptune, or PuppyGraph.
  • Production-grade experience with Apache Iceberg.
  • A strong understanding of query planning, or experience contributing to production-grade query engines or related projects (e.g., Trino, Calcite, Substrait, DataFusion), ideally demonstrated through open-source contributions or PMC membership.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to build tools for software engineers and utilize those tools to accelerate development.
  • Significant influence on product direction and a direct impact on the business.
  • Work alongside skilled, knowledgeable, and supportive teammates who foster a culture of teaching and learning.
  • Competitive global benefits.
  • Opportunities for continuous professional development.

Note: Benefits and growth opportunities may vary based on country of employment and employment nature.
